It is safe to say that my family and I do quite a bit of entertaining during the holiday season. Whether it is a cookie baking get-together, a little informal shindig with friends, or a full blown Christmas dinner, our home is always full and busy each weekend of December.

No matter the reason or theme of the holiday get-together, one thing is definitely guaranteed- everyone will get thirsty at some point.

That is why I made it a point to head to my local Walmart early on in December and stock up on some of everyone's favorites in 2 liters and 0.5 liter 6packs - A&W®, 7UP®, Canada Dry®, Sunkist®, Sun Drop®, RC Cola®, & Squirt®.

One of my favorite festive flavor combinations for the holidays is cranberry and orange, so I decided to whip up an easy and creamy float perfect for the holidays using the Sunkist®. I mean, who doesn't love an ice cream float? ;)

I used fresh cranberries and oranges in a simple, no churn ice cream recipe to create these delicious & refreshing Cranberry Orange Creamsicle Floats...

These Cranberry Orange Creamsicle Floats make for very easy holiday entertaining. Just whip up the ice cream the night before & set out at room temperature 15-20 minutes before you are ready to serve up these floats.

Drop a large scoop or two of the ice cream in a glass, pour in the Sunkist® to fill the glass, and drop in a few fresh cranberries on top for a pretty & festive presentation. Voila!

prep time: 4 hours cook time: 5 min total time: 4 hours & 5 min

ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh/frozen cranberries
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Zest & juice for half of a fresh orange
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 oz. whipped topping, thawed
  • Sunkist beverage (I used 1 16.9 oz bottle per 2 servings.)
  • Fresh cranberries for garnishing, optional

instructions:

How to cook Cranberry Orange Creamsicle Floats

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, orange zest & juice. Heat over medium heat stirring often until the cranberries pop and the mixture begins to thicken slightly, about 5 minutes. Allow the mixture to cool completely.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add in the milk, sweetened condensed milk, heavy cream, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy, about 5-6 minutes. Now add in the cooled cranberry-orange mixture and beat until well combined. Fold in the thawed whipped topping. Transfer to a freezer safe container and place in the freezer. Mix with a rubber spatula after 1 hour of freezing, and then again once each hour for the next 2 hours. Freeze for at least 4 hours & up to overnight.
  3. To prepare the floats:
  4. Allow the ice cream to sit out at room temperature at least 15-20 minutes before scooping. Homemade ice cream freezes harder than store bought ice creams.
  5. Add a large scoop of the cranberry orange ice cream to a glass. Pour in enough of the Sunkist® to fill the glass. Garnish with fresh cranberries and pop in a festive straw.
  6. Enjoy!
