Summer Blog Challenge, Day 34- Like the "Free" Space in BINGO

Since today is Independence Day, the Summer Blog Challenge topic is for us to "freely" post whatever we would like...  Lately, I have been watching the shows Four Weddings and Say Yes to the Dress often.  I love seeing other people's creativity and special touches when it comes to their special days.  I also just love to see the gorgeous dresses that the brides-to-be try on one after another until tears well up in their eyes, and you know THE dress has been found.

I know most wives say this, but I LOVED my wedding to my husband.  Everything single detail was exactly what we had wanted.  We had both been married once before (not to each other ;) ), and we had already both had the big weddings.  You know, where some of the details and decisions got away from us.  We both knew we wanted something small, intimate, and well, us. So, I am going to use my freebie post to share some of my favorite details and touches from our wedding last May....

My look was 100% 50s style glam.  My dress was a closeout floor model Justin Alexander gown.  It was the very last dress that I tried on, and before it was even completely zipped up my mom looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, "That is the one." And she was so right.  It was absolutely me.  My something borrowed was a rhinestone necklace that my grandmother had in fact bought in the 1950s.  I wore diamond earrings that my husband had waiting for me in my dressing room the day of our wedding.  I actually brought in a photo of Elizabeth Taylor from the 50s to my hair stylist as the inspiration for my wedding day hair.  I loved my yellow pumps.  They were a cheery pop of color hidden under my gown. And yes, they matched my bouquet ;)

We didn't go with the usual expected 3 or 4 tier wedding cake.  Instead, we ordered six different smaller cakes from our favorite bakery near where we lived.  Each cake was arranged atop one of my mother's Depression ware glass plates.  The center cake was topped with the very same cake topper that my mom and dad used at their wedding.
Our guests loved the variety in the cakes, and there was enough that just about everyone got to try a little bit of almost all the cakes.
