About Me

Frugality is a skill I learned early on from my parents. While we always had what we needed, there were times when things were very tight. It was then that I saw my parents' resourcefulness and financial skills in practice. I spent almost 9 years being a single mom to my son, so frugality took on an entirely new meaning then. After I gave birth to my daughter in 2012, I made the decision that I would stay at home with my baby girl. Once again I turned back to what I had learned as a child from my parents and the hard financial lessons I was dealt as an adult and found a way to go from two incomes to one. It wasn't easy, but we made things work. Though things are now much easier for us financially, that creatively frugal mindset has never left me. From budget friendly meal planning to affordable family travel, it is a part of what I share with you all here every day at Frugal Foodie Mama.

Though I have always loved food (and sweets in particular), I haven't always loved being in the kitchen & I haven't always been a foodie. Let's just say it was an acquired taste and skill that took me more than a few years of my adult life to develop. ;) After I graduated college, I moved from my small hometown to a much larger city. It was there that my eyes were opened to all of the different delicious culinary experiences that up until then I didn't even know existed. I opened my mind and my palate to the different experiences, tastes, and smells. And from there I found my passion for cooking, baking, and developing my own budget friendly versions of some of my favorite dishes. I am now and will always be a foodie at heart.

I have been many things in my life- a student, a teacher, a bartender, a salesperson- but the most important role I have ever taken on has been becoming a mother. Being a parent is beautiful, taxing, amazing, tiring, rewarding, & relentless, but it is by far the best "job" I have ever been given. I teach and guide them not only with my words, but also with my actions, the experiences I give them, and the many places we travel to as a family. In addition to sharing my money saving tips and delicious recipes with you all here, I also want to share a part of who I am at my very core- being a mama to my son and my daughter.
