I get it- you all might be a tad apprehensive about traveling at all during the time of Covid. For months now, I have been living a cooped-up existence with my daughter in our home. 

We have avoided large family gatherings and have kept a tight circle of close family and a few friends since this pandemic started. We have been opting to do small day trips here and there instead of a weeklong vacation like we would normally do. 

But let's face it, you all- I think we all need a little adults-only time away from the kiddos for a few days after months and months of seeing their precious little faces day in and day out. Am I right? ;) 

You may be wondering if right now is really the right time to start planning a couple's road trip. And I totally understand your hesitation. But with the right planning and a little bit of research on your part, you can plan a fun, safe, and socially distanced getaway with your significant other.

I have spent most of my life living 2 hours or less from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and never once in that 30+ years did I visit the Steel City just to take in the sights & the sounds of the holiday season. 

To shop at the malls for holiday gifts? Yes. 

But we had never took the time to go and see the twinkling lights at Kennywood, or to take in the wonder of the season at Phipps Conservatory, or to try our luck at ice skating downtown. That is, of course, until a couple of weeks ago. ;)

Let me just start by saying that we have been missing out! I don't know how many times during our most recent visit to Pittsburgh (aka, Kidsburgh) that I turned and looked at my husband & asked him why we have never taken the kids to the city do all of these fun & festive things during the holidays before? 

Pittsburgh becomes something so much more during the holidays than just a former steel town, a home to major league sport teams, the point where the Allegheny, Monongahela, & Ohio Rivers meet. During the holiday season, the city becomes a magical place alive with the spirit of holiday wonder.

I think that by now you all know that I am no stranger to the Pittsburgh area. Having lived most of my life just a short 2 hour drive away & having a husband who is a huge Pittsburgh Pirates fan, we make the little road trip to the Steel City quite a few times each year. One thing that I have been amazed and impressed by over the last 5 or 6 years is just how much the landscape of the local food scene in Pittsburgh has grown & changed! 

Last month I had the privilege to team up with Visit Pittsburgh once again to join them on their Taste of Pittsburgh tour. We spent two days eating and drinking our way through Pittsburgh. From a tasty stroll of Market Square, through the well known & ever growing Strip District area (so aptly named for the flat strip of land that it is built on- get your mind outta the gutter! ;) ), and finally to the top of Mount Washington for dessert and breathtaking views of the city...

A couple of weeks ago, my family and I had the pleasure of joining five other travel bloggers and their families for three fun filled days in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Any of you all that have been following me now for a while probably already know of my family and I's love for the Steel City. We make the 2 hour drive to the city several times throughout the year, so when I received the invitation to attend the Pittsburgh is Kidsburgh press tour I knew that we would all be there with bells on. :) 

The wonderful thing about Pittsburgh is that no matter how many times my family and I have visited there we always seem to discover something new and exciting to do there, and our most recent trip there was definitely no exception. 

For many of us, the summer is winding down and the first day of school is just around the corner or maybe it has already arrived for you and your kiddos. But that doesn't mean we should throw in the towel and declare summer over! Not when there are plenty of warm weekends left until the chill of fall arrives.

Pittsburgh is For Families- A Travel Guide

A big thank you to Visit Pittsburgh for arranging our travel accommodations and for helping us plan out a truly memorable family weekend getaway...

Living less than 2 hours away and with my husband being a die hard Pirates fan, we have visited the beautiful city of Pittsburgh on several occasions in the past 3 years.  The city itself is nestled among the convergence of 3 different mighty rivers- the Allegheny, the Monongahela, and the Ohio- making for breathtaking views of Pittsburgh no matter where you may be standing. Of course, for the best views of the city, you must take a ride on one of the two still operational inclines and visit Mount Washington (but more on that later ;) ).

Despite our many trips to Pittsburgh to root on the Buccos, there are still many places and areas of the city that we have not explored as a family yet.  With a little help from Visit Pittsburgh, we were able to cross off a few of the things still left on our Steel City travel bucket list.
