Fresh Foods Wednesday- July 18, 2012

For this week's Fresh Foods Wednesday, I am sharing with you garden gifts I was fortunate enough to receive this week...
I have been appointed the temporary gardener for my parents' garden while they are away on vacation. My compensation?  Whatever I want to take home from their garden. Yesterday's haul was 3 turnips, 1 summer squash, 1 banana pepper, and a very large cucumber. Yeah, that is a cucumber. Not a zucchini. ;)
I just love the beauty of fresh veggies!

My next door neighbor also stopped by yesterday afternoon to share some of his homegrown tomatoes with us.  I think he is taking pity on me.  He has seen my 3 haggard tomato plants in my raised garden bed.  They are not doing so well.  Which makes me a sad panda.  I am not sure exactly what is going on. I have tested my soil and it is good. I don't over or under water them.  But alas, I have 2 tomato plants with 2 tomatoes each on them, and 1 tomato plant with absolutely nothing on it. Any thoughts on this, readers?

  1. hmmm.. i had the same problem the first year i grew tomatoes. and then the second year we had too many to eat! sometimes i think it's the plants... maybe you should add some potash to your soil? tomatoes are supposed to like it.

p.s. i ADORE the fact that people in your community are sharing their veggies. it's how food should be grown/gifted/sold/etc... love it :)

thank you for visiting and sharing your seasonal post with us at The Fresh Foods Blog Hop - I hope you'll stop by again this Wednesday!
