During the holiday season I end up spending quite a bit of my time in the kitchen whipping up tasty goodies for holiday get-togethers, classroom parties, and for family & friends. 

Oftentimes, I like to get the kiddos involved whether it is just them helping to cut out the cookies, decorating them with sugars or sprinkles, or helping me give a classic treat a fun & festive twist for the holidays.

Easter and springtime both evoke a lot of feel good family memories for me. From my sister and I dressing in matching frilly dresses complete with bonnets, to Easter egg hunts, to a big family dinner with a pineapple rings and cherries studded ham, Easter has always been a time for family and for creating lasting memories. 

Another classic from my childhood Easters has to be jelly beans. I mean, who can think of Easter and not also think of those colorful candies? We got our first snowfall a couple of weeks ago. It was just a dusting of maybe a half inch, but my daughter insisted on getting all of her snow gear on and heading outside to play in the snow. 

Luckily her dad bundled up and joined her because even though I love Christmas and the holiday season, I have never been a big fan of the cold. In fact, if we could just have a couple days of snow right around Christmas day each year and that was it, I would be a happy camper for the rest of winter.

I always get excited when I see the calendar flip over to October each fall because I know that means that the month of all things Halloween has finally arrived. Ever since I was a kid, Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. 

I was fortunate to have been blessed with a very crafty & creative mama who always made my sister & I the best Halloween costumes each year for trick or treat. My grandparents hosted a big family costume party each October complete with games (bobbing for apples, anyone? ;) ), costumes, haunted decor, and of course spooky dishes and treats. 

My parents took over hosting the Halloween costume party about 10 years ago, and I am always trying to come up with new boo-licious treats to bring to the party. Classic Kelloggs® Rice Krispies® treats forms the base for this hauntingly tasty sweet treat. I simply topped them with chocolate frosting and chocolate sandwich cookie crumbs, and then employed my 4 1/2 year old daughter to help me go crazy making our haunted graveyard come to life (or should I say come to death?). 

We made tombstones from graham crackers, "planted" a few candy pumpkins, and liberally applied ghost-shaped sprinkles all over. I mean, what's a haunted graveyard without the ghosts, right? ;)

The Easter Bunny is going to be making his rounds a little earlier this year than normal, but we are ready for him in our house. The soon-to-be treat filled baskets are ready to be assembled. Okay, so I first posted this recipe WAY back in the day. Like in December of 2012. And I have finally decided 4 years later that it was about time that this little gem got some shiny new photos before Christmas. ;) 

Honestly, this post was far overdue for a little photography face lift. I had meant to do it last December (and the December before that), but you know... the holidays caught up with me and I ran out of time. But this year? I made the time, you all.

Spring has finally arrived here in my part of the world, and we are starting to gear up for Easter. The youngest already has her Easter dress picked out. But in reality, snow days can sometimes make us cranky- both parents & kids alike.

Can you all believe that the month of October starts this weekend?? It would be a bit of an understatement to say that I am just a tad excited. 

I have always been more of a fall kind of gal since I was a kid. There is just something about the smell of fall leaves, the crisp air, our annual pilgrimage to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch, and of course one of my favorite holidays of the year- Halloween! :)
