This creamy Banana Mocha Smoothie with a caffeine kick makes the perfect grab & go breakfast or afternoon pick-me-up.

You know those mornings when you are running behind, & your youngest can't find her other shoe, & you are frantically searching for your car keys so you can get out the door and get your day started? Those mornings when you are debating over just having coffee for breakfast because you don't seem to have time for much else?

Those mornings when you are complicating just shoving a cold pop tart into your mouth as you walk out the door because it is better than nothing? If any of this rings familiar with you at all, then today's recipe for this Banana Mocha Smoothie is for you!

Not only can this creamy smoothie curb your hunger pangs, but it also has a bonus caffeine kick. Yes, folks. This smoothie is breakfast & coffee in one! A perfect grab & go solution when you are short on time & need to take breakfast (& caffeine!) on the run...

This smoothie is actually inspired by one that I used to order at my local Starbucks. They aren't available there anymore, but it was called the Vivanno smoothie. It was a creamy blend of espresso, bananas, & chocolate. Since I couldn't get my caffeine-spiked smoothie fix from Starbucks anymore, I decided to recreate it at home.

The key to this smoothie having the perfect frosty, yet creamy consistency is to freeze the banana & the coffee ahead of time. I simply peel a ripe banana & then wrap it in aluminum foil & let it freeze overnight.

You can freeze leftover coffee by pouring it into ice cube trays to make what I call coffee cubes. I try to keep a few frozen bananas & a tray of coffee cubes in my freezer at all times so I can have everything on hand to whip up this smoothie even on the busiest of mornings.

This Banana Mocha Smoothie is also perfect when you have hit that afternoon slump & need a little pick-me-up to keep you going through the rest of your day. :)

A few notes & suggestions for making this smoothie:

  • Not getting enough leafy greens in your daily diet? Add a handful of torn baby spinach leaves to the blender first with the cup of milk and blend until smooth. Then add in the remaining ingredients & blend.
  • Want a little extra nutritional boost? Toss in a tablespoon of chia or flax seeds before blending.
  • Not interested in the caffeine boost in this smoothie? Make decaf coffee instead & freeze it into coffee cubes to use in this recipe.
  • Make this smoothie 100% dairy-free & vegan by swapping in a non-dairy yogurt and almond, soy, or coconut milk.
