Hello football season!  Well, kind of... Football season hasn't quite commenced in our house yet.  My husband is a die hard Pirates fan, so surprisingly he hasn't cared very much about college or professional football... yet. ;)
Right now it is ALL about major league baseball and the Pirates first winning season in like... forever.
I am happy to see my husband so giddy over his favorite baseball team, but I am not going to lie- I prefer football season...
A.  It is a sport I enjoy watching more, for the most part.
B.  It is only on ONE day a week.  Maybe two, if you factor in one Mountaineers game a week and one Steelers game.

Baseball is on like almost EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK.
I am kind of over our days being planned around a 3-4 hour baseball game... like all the time.

Regardless, I am mostly ready for football season for the food.  ;)  Chips & dip, grilling burgers, and buffalo wings.  Am I right?
To help you all usher in the official start of football season (you know, if you happen to live in a household that is not also occupied by a Pirates, Cardinals, or Reds fan), I have gathered up 25 of the tastiest Buffalo sauced recipes from some of our favorite food bloggers.
Buffalo sauce isn't just for wings, my friends... ;)

College football season is finally here and for many of us that also means the ushering in of tailgating and football party season.
I mean, I will be honest.  I love our Mountaineers here in the great state of West Virginia, and I love watching them play.  But what I love even more is inviting friends & family to come on over and hosting a football party. ;)
But you can’t have a football party without delicious food! We love simple grilling recipes, like a citrus marinade that adds bright flavor to grilled chicken. Plus, we always have the main ingredient in our fridge – 100% Florida Orange Juice!

Florida Orange Juice is an easy addition to just about any game day grilling marinade.  And when we are not marinating and grilling with it, this family is drinking it.  As a mama, making nutritious choices for my family is important. 100% Florida Orange Juice is not only delicious, but it is also packed with all the good stuff like vitamin C plus other essential nutrients like potassium, folate and thiamin!
And the fact that it makes a fantastic base for a tailgating chicken marinade? Bonus! :)

This simple chicken marinade takes just 4 ingredients to make, but it is packed with flavor. It is sure to quickly become a new game day favorite...

Buffalo Fried Okra

A classic southern dish gets a spicy makeover perfect for game day in these Buffalo Fried Okra...

A classic southern dish gets a spicy makeover perfect for game day in these Buffalo Fried Okra.

Buffalo sauced foods are pretty much a staple in my house all year round, but even more so when football season rolls around. I mean, what is a game day menu without something Buffalo sauced?

Wings and Buffalo flavored dips are my usual stand-by's for game day feasting, but I decided to take my Buffalo sauce game up a notch or two by giving a classic southern appetizer an unexpected spicy kick.

I soaked fresh sliced okra in egg and then coated them in a traditional cornmeal breading, fried them up golden brown & crunchy, and then tossed them in a foolproof homemade Buffalo sauce- game day perfection, folks!

Up until a couple of months or so ago, okra was one of those vegetables that I hadn't cooked with much, and was I actually a little intimidated by it. It wasn't until my aunt started growing fresh okra in her garden that I realized just how easy and versatile this vegetable is.

It grows like crazy, so you can easily freeze quite a few batches to use in gumbos, jambalaya, or to simply bread and fry throughout football season and well into the winter months. Which is a good thing because I have a feeling that these Buffalo Fried Okra are going to be requested quite often for game days this season.

These crunchy, spicy nuggets of Southern goodness are perfectly poppable and absolutely irresistible!

A {Healthier} Buffalo Chicken Dip From Sara at You.And.Me.Are.We

In keeping with my Buffalo Chicken theme from yesterday, Sara from You.And.Me.Are.We is stopping over today to share with us one of her favorite recipes inspired by everyone's favorite wings.  CLICK HERE to check out my recipe from yesterday for No Effort Buffalo Chicken Pizza. :)

Hi there! I'm Sara and I post over at You.And.Me.Are.We! You can find me rambling on about life as a newlywed, how I'm working on turning our rented house into a home, and other various happenings {can you say CHOCOLATEZUCCHINIBREAD?!).

Now that it's September, it's officially football season! Even better, it's officially tailgating season! Can you tell I'm from Wisconsin? Tailgating is just as big of an event as the football game itself: brats, beer, chips & dip, cheese, and more brats!

I'm here to share with you the ultimate football dip - {Healthier} Buffalo Chicken Dip. Trust me, you're going to want to run to the store and get a few ingredients for this dip ASAP!

My husband, Trevor, and I love this recipe so much that I urge you to make it next Sunday! And, the really great part? It doesn't taste like it's a healthy version of anything! Plus, you can use it as a dip with chips and veggies or you can slap some between some crusty bread and make hot sandwiches with it. Even better? It's made in a slow cooker and takes only a few hours from start to finish.

Totally yummy, totally versatile, totally easy!

The original recipe can be found here, but you'll find my own version below.

You'll need:
1/2 a block (4 oz.) of cream cheese
1 cup fat free sour cream
a small jar (5 oz.) of Frank's hot sauce {insider's tip: try out the different versions of hot sauce that Frank's offers!}
a splash of white wine vinegar
two small or one large cooked chicken breasts
optional: 1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles

Note: The blue cheese isn't "optional" in the original recipe, but we've tried it without a few times and while there's a different taste, it can definitely be left out. However, if you do include it in the recipe, you should know that a little goes a long way!

Put everything in the slow cooker and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours. When you're ready to serve it, use two forks to shred the chicken and it's ready to go!

Like I said, we like to use it as a hot sandwich spread with crusty bread, but it's also really good when you dip chips and veggies into it!

Now, I'm guessing you have most - if not all - of the ingredients you need for this delicious dip already so you might as well go ahead and make it for dinner tonight - make your kids and husband some PB&J sandwiches so you can eat it all check to make sure it's tailgate acceptable. {Yeah, right, it'll be gone by tomorrow morning!}

Stop by You.And.Me.Are.We to let me know how you like the dip!

Follow me on Twitter, like me on Facebook, and check out my Pinterest boards, too!
What are some of your favorite tailgate foods?

The traditional Bloody Mary gets a little sophisticated & flavorful twist with a super simple basil & garlic infused vodka.

Football season is in full swing, folks!
Some of you are fans.  Some of you are crazy fans.... like you start bleeding a color other than red when your favorite team hits the field.
And some of you all could care less.
But I think we can all say that we are fans of tailgating and football parties and the tasty foods and drinks that those little get-togethers entail. Am I right? ;)

Football game mornings used to always mean bloody marys to start the day.  I mean, you know... like years ago they did.
But I still like to partake in the occasional bloody mary on a crisp football game morning.

The SuperBowl of ALL Giveaways! {$500 Paypal Cash Giveaway}

Okay, so here is the thing... I do not care about who wins the Super Bowl.
(I apologize now to all my die hard Seahawks and Broncos fans out there reading this.  And yes, I just had to actually Google who is playing in the Super Bowl next Sunday before I typed that sentence. ;) )

But I will have people over.  I will host a little get-together.  I will sort of watch the game.
Why?
Because I am straight up in it for the food, my friends.
Game day food is THE BEST.  Am I right?

Now, please don't think that I am one of those gals who is a sports hater. That is far from the truth.
I am just not much for professional sports... except for baseball.  And maybe hockey- but that is just for the fights. ;)
I am all about college football though, folks.  LOVE college football season.

Buffalo Chicken Caesar Wonton Bites

These Buffalo Chicken Caesar Wonton Bites are a perfectly poppable finger food that is ready in around 30 minutes...

We are huge Buffalo chicken fans and big Mountaineers fans (go WVU!) in this house. Football season always means tailgating and football food to me.
And yes, I admit it.

I often look forward more to the tasty party foods than the actual games themselves. ;)
Regardless if I am actually wanting to watch the game or maybe just socialize (and stuff my face) more, easy party foods that are tasty and quick to prepare are essential to me.

When Tyson asked me to create a fun and delicious tailgating recipe using their Buffalo Chicken Strips, I knew I wanted to do an easy finger food- no utensils needed!  I mean, who wants to be standing around at a tailgate or a football party holding a plate, a beer, and trying to stab something with a fork at the same time?  Am I right?

I combined one of my favorite salad flavors with the tasty Tyson Buffalo Chicken Strips to make my Buffalo Chicken Caesar Wonton Bites...

A classic cocktail is transformed into a delicious slow cooker meal that is perfect for game day (or any day!) in this Slow Cooker Captain & Coke Pulled Chicken recipe.

Post updated 9/5/18- This flavorful Slow Cooker Captain & Coke Pulled Chicken recipe deserved some updated photos just in time for college football season. I did leave one of the originals down below just so you all can see for yourself why this recipe so desperately needed a little face lift. ;)

My husband's go-to drink of choice is a good old fashioned Captain & Coke.  In fact, we always have a bottle in the freezer.

Not that he kicks back with a cocktail every evening.  In fact, we have had the very same bottle of Captain Morgan in our freezer since we were married almost 2 years ago.  We also have a rather larger bottle of Captain in the cupboard leftover from the reception from the above mentioned wedding.

Needless to say, I am always look for some ways to help use up a little of that rum.
You know, besides taking shots or mixing up cocktails. ;)

Tailgating with Toddlers {And a Recipe From Patching Hearts!}

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
In keeping with my fun game day recipes from last Friday, Karen from Patching Hearts is here today sharing some easy toddler friendly tailgating recipes.  Just because you have small kids doesn't mean you have to give up your football fun! ;) How great are these kid-sized snacks?  (And can the adults eat them too??)

Thank you, Carrie for allowing me to guest post today.  My family and I tailgate at least 1-2 times a year for Navy Football games.  While I'm not a huge football fan, we have friends with season tickets so we love going and hanging out.  My kids are very picky eaters.  It's hard to find easy fun food that kids will love to eat and that is easy to travel with.  One of my staples are pepperoni rolls and fruit kabobs (not always together though).

Pepperoni rolls are crescent rolls filled with pepperoni and mozzerella cheese.  Sounds delicious right?  It is!  You can also dip them in pizza sauce to make them even more fun.

Ingredients:
1 can refrigerated crescent rolls
pepperoni slices
Mozzerella Cheese
garlic powder
pizza sauce

Preheat oven to 375.

Unroll crescent rolls and separate into 8 triangles. Place slices of pepperoni on each crescent roll. Top pepperoni with cheese. Sprinkle crescent rolls with garlic powder. Place rolls on baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve with a side of warm pizza sauce.

Another favorite are Fruit Kabobs.  My kids LOVE these and they are so easy!  I bought some fun kabob sticks and just add my kid's favorite fruits.  I actually packed this one for my daughter's lunch.  They are super easy and fun!

Happy Tailgating!

Creamy Buffalo Ranch Potato Salad

Traditional potato salad gets a game day makeover in this Creamy Buffalo Ranch Potato Salad...

Traditional potato salad gets a game day makeover in this Creamy Buffalo Ranch Potato Salad.
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Red Baron. The opinions and text are all mine.

When you are the parents to a little one under 3, your days of tailgating are pretty much over or at the very least are put on hold for a few years. But that certainly doesn't mean that the fun and food of football season has to come to a grinding and depressing halt, folks! Not when you could just move the tailgating to your home. ;) I mean, who says that tailgating has to happen in a parking lot anyways?

And tailgating at home doesn't have to be super time consuming or complicated either. Grab a few Red Baron, Freschetta, or Tony's pizzas, kick in a few tasty appetizers and side dishes, a dessert or two, and some fun drinks, and you are good to go!
Be sure to check out the Tailgate At Your Place virtual hub for recipes, home tailgating tips, & more to get you started.

One of my favorite go-to side dishes for a tailgate at home party is this Creamy Buffalo Ranch Potato Salad. It is super easy to make, full of flavor, and a touchdown with just about everyone...

Curry Crab Stuffed Mushrooms ~Swapping Blogs With This Gal Cooks~

Good morning all!  Today Julie from This Gal Cooks is swapping blogs with me!  That's right!  Hop on over to Julie's blog after your check out her fantastic recipe below and go see my recipe for Chipotle Sloppy Joes. :)

Howdy, fellow bloggers! My name is Julie. I blog over at This Gal Cooks about food! The name didn't give it away, did it? ;) I'm excited to be guest posting on Carrie's blog today because, well, I just love her blog and she's become a great bloggy friend. I hope that one day we can meet in person! I'd love to get all of us fellow bloggy gals together one day!
A little about me - I'm a foodie who loves to cook and bake. I dream of one day owning my own cafe or bake shop. When I'm not whipping up great dishes in the kitchen, I can be found enjoying a beer, enjoying the outdoors or doing arts and crafts!

What I will be sharing with you today is a stuffed mushroom recipe.Who doesn't LOVE stuffed mushrooms? And with football season in full swing and the holidays right around the corner, this recipe will make a great appetizer that the friends and family are sure to enjoy. I hope you enjoy my recipe!
Ingredients
  • 16oz package of whole fresh mushrooms
  • 1/2 small onion
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp seasoned salt
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1/4 C mayo
  • 1/4 C sour cream
  • 4oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 C shredded cheese
  • 4oz imitation crab meat (I used leg style)
Directions

1. Pre-heat oven to 350. Lightly oil a baking pan with olive oil.
2. Wash mushrooms and remove the entire stem from each mushroom.
3. In a food processor, chop the imitation crab and onion.
4. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, shredded cheese, sour cream, mayo, garlic powder, seasoned salt and curry. Mix in the chopped imitation crab and onion.
5. Stuff each mushroom with about 1-2 tsp of the mixture (it really depends on the size of the mushrooms you get) Place the mushrooms on the oiled baking pan and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.

If you have any leftover mixture, I suggest making wraps or crab rangoon with it. I will be making crab rangoon one day with this mixture!
I hope you enjoyed this recipe! Have a great day!

No Effort Buffalo Chicken Pizza

My bread maker has been the catalyst for my absolute obsession with making homemade pizza lately.  Like at least once every single week.  Though my husband and son prefer it, I can only do so many pepperoni and cheese pizzas before I need a little change-up.  One of my first out of the ordinary pizza experiments was my seasonal and fresh Peach, Basil, and Caramelized Onion Homemade Pizza.  But now with football season upon us, I think this calls for the combination of two of everyone's favorite tailgate foods into one delicious creation- a Buffalo Chicken Pizza.
This recipe is incredibly easy.  I let my Crock Pot and my bread maker do ALL the heavy lifting for this one.  Yes, for most of the actual cook time of this recipe I sat on my butt playing on Pinterest or chasing my daughter around the living room.  Note:  I was NOT in the kitchen. ;)
If you plan on making this for game day, I would suggest making the chicken in the Crock Pot the day before.  You can cut up the chicken the evening before game day morning, and store it in the fridge.  Or, you could go the SUPER easy route and just pick up a rotisserie chicken from the store, but by making your own in the Crock Pot you can save money (and salt, and preservatives, and calories ;) ).
For my quick recipe for "roasted" chicken in the Crock Pot, CLICK HERE.

What you will need:
For the crust-
1 cup of warm water
2 tbsp of olive oil
1 tbsp of honey
3/4 tsp salt
2 cups white flour
1 cup wheat flour
2 tsp active dry yeast
1-2 tbsp of cornmeal for dusting
* I adapted my pizza dough recipe from the one found HERE.

About 1 lb (one large breast) of chicken, chopped
1 cup (maybe a bit more depending on your preference) of prepared Buffalo sauce
1/2 cup of blue cheese crumbles
1 cup of shredded mozzarella
1/2 of red onion, thinly sliced (optional)
1 jalapeno pepper, thinly sliced (optional)

After your chicken is finished roasting and as you are allowing it to cool before chopping, go ahead and start your pizza dough in your bread maker.  Add wet ingredients and then dry ingredients in the order I have them listed above.  Set your bread maker to the Dough setting and then just walk away.  My bread maker takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to mix, knead, and raise the dough.

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.  Once your pizza dough is finished in the bread maker, take it out and dust it lightly with cornmeal.  Spread out the dough in a pan or on a pizza stone.  I usually lightly grease my pan to prevent any sticking.  In a small bowl, mix together your chopped chicken and Buffalo sauce.  We use an already prepared sauce that is made by a local vendor.  You can use your favorite wing sauce, or make your own.  I am using jarred because, A. This is No Effort Buffalo Chicken pizza. and B. We love this locally made wing sauce.

Spread the chicken and sauce mixture evenly over your crust.  If you have opted to add the red onions and/or jalapeno, toss those on now.  Now sprinkle on the mozzarella and blue cheese.  Bake at 425 for about 20 minutes.  I suggest that at 10 minutes you rotate the pan.  When the crust is slightly golden and the cheese is all bubbly, your pizza is probably ready to take out of the oven.  Let it cool slightly before cutting and serving.

I serve our Buffalo Chicken Pizza with a side of Ranch.  You could also serve it along side some blue cheese dressing and celery sticks.  This recipe makes six very large slices or 8 medium sized slices.
